How to Install the Layout Codes

So, are you breaking into a cold sweat at the thought of having to install MySpace layout codes?

Well, help has arrived. We'll use the layout below as an example to walk you through the process of installing any of the MySpace layouts available at this site (it's easy, don't worry). First of all, I'm assuming that:
  1. You're using Windows.
  2. You're already logged in to MySpace.
  3. You have your profile set to MySpace Profile 1.0 (if you don't know what that means, click here).

For Regular profiles
  1. Click inside the layout code text box to select all the code.
  2. Right-click on the selected code and click on Copy.
  3. Go to your MySpace account Home page
  4. Click on Edit Profile
  5. Click anywhere inside the 'About Me' text box that appears on this screen and press Ctrl + End on your keyboard to place the text cursor at the end of any text you've already typed in there.
  6. Press Ctrl + V on your keyboard to paste in the layout code.
  7. Click on the  Save All Changes  button at the top of the screen.
  8. Click on the View My Profile link at the top of the screen to see your profile with your new layout in effect.
That's it.
For Band profiles
  1. Click inside the layout code text box to select all the code.
  2. Right-click on the selected code and click on Copy.
  3. Go to your MySpace account Home page
  4. Click on Safe Mode
  5. Click on the Edit link below the Bio box
  6. Click anywhere inside the 'Band Bio' text box and press Ctrl + End on your keyboard to place the text cursor at the end of any text you've already typed in there.
  7. Press Ctrl + V on your keyboard to paste in the layout code.
  8. Click on the  Preview  button
  9. On the next screen, click on the  Submit  button

  10. Click on the View My Profile link at the top of the screen to see your profile with your new layout in effect.
That's it.

Now there are a small number of you who being new to MySpace and new to whole layout thingy, will be bound to screw things up a little bit. Before you spend half an hour carefully crafting a well-written, spell checked email to me saying something like:

it din't work! plz help!!!

...please READ THE FOLLOWING:

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I installed your layout and it didn't work. My old layout is still showing.
  • I installed your layout but parts of my old layout are still showing.
  • I installed your layout code and the contact table is not showing.
  • I installed your layout code and...
Okay! Whoa! Whoa! Stop. I get it—

Now my dear friends... All of the above described situations and any similar to this are highly likely to be produced by one of the following scenarios:
  1. You used the MySpace.com profile editor and you didn't clear all those styles before installing my layout.
AND/OR...
  1. You have your profile set to MySpace Profile 2.0 (instead of Profile 1.0)
AND/OR...
  1. You have one or more layout/tweak codes taken from other MySpace sites installed along with my layout code.
To make sure your fabulous Iron Spider MySpace layout displays correctly on your profile, YOU MUST:
  1. CLEAR ALL STYLES CREATED BY THE MYSPACE.COM PROFILE EDITOR.

This is by far the most frequent problem when installing one of my layouts doesn't work. If you previously used the MySpace.com profile editor to make a layout for your profile, you have to DELETE THAT LAYOUT before any of my layouts will display properly on your profile.

    HERE'S HOW TO DO THIS:

    1. Go to your Edit Profile page. Then click on the 'Profile Editor' link (top right below 'Account Settings') to load the Profile Editor. If you get a warning saying "Your current profile contains some CSS code", just click OK.
    2. Click on the 'Edit Theme' tab. Then look down near the bottom left and click on the 'Start Over' button (if you can't see the 'Start Over' button, make sure your browser window is maximized). You'll get a warning saying "Start from scratch and lose your changes?" Click on 'Lose Changes'.
    3. After this you'll probably get a warning saying, "Your profile contains CSS/HTML/custom codes which may effect how MySpace themes are displayed." Forget about how confusing this warning sounds and just click on 'Continue anyway' and close the Profile Themes box (click on the 'X').
Your installed Iron Spider MySpace layout should now display normally. If you still have problems, make sure that you...
  1. SET YOUR PROFILE TO MYSPACE PROFILE 1.0

All my layouts were designed specifically for MySpace Profile 1.0 (the original MySpace profile). Here's how to set your MySpace page back to MySpace Profile 1.0:

    1. Go to your MySpace account home page
    2. Click on 'Edit Profile'
    3. Click on 'Customize Profile'
    4. Click on 'Go back' (running along the top and to the right). You should see a popup offering you the option to 'Switch to Profile 1.0'
    5. Click on Switch to Profile 1.0. You'll see an confirmation prompt saying 'Profile 1.0 does not have movable modules or advanced privacy options.'
    6. Click on 'Switch to Profile 1.0'

You should now be back at your MySpace page showing the original MySpace 1.0 version. Now you can install one of my layouts and everything should display normally.
If you still have problems, make sure that you...
  1. REMOVE ALL LAYOUT/TWEAK CODES TAKEN FROM OTHER MYSPACE SITES.

To do this, go to the Profile Edit page in your MySpace account and carefully look through all the text boxes (About Me, I'd Like to Meet, General, Music, Films, etc.) and DELETE ALL LAYOUT AND TWEAK CODES TAKEN FROM OTHER SITES. It is impossible to guarantee that my layout codes will be compatible with ALL five bazillion other crappy, half-baked, outdated MySpace layout/tweak codes out there on the net. And even if the other layout/tweak code is actually —through some freak of nature— a 'good' code, it is still impossible to guarantee my layout code will be compatible with it. I'd like to fully explain why this is but it would take about eight pages of technobabble. (Do yourself a favor and just take my word for it.) If you do decide to install a layout/tweak code taken from another site along with my layout code, you do so at your own risk. I cannot provide any technical support in this situation.
Now...

After doing ALL OF THE ABOVE, if your installed Iron Spider MySpace layout still does not display normally, you can contact me here. However, DO NOT CONTACT ME asking about why a layout you took from another MySpace layout site is not working. All emails like this get automatically deleted. Contact them instead. (Or better yet, dump their layout and try one of mine.)
