MySpace Layouts FAQ

After spending the last year and a half replying to truckloads of emails from MySpace users, I've come to realize that certain questions are frequently asked.

And here they are...

QUESTIONS:

1. I installed one of your layouts but on my profile the text is not aligned with the background image. Can you fix this please?
2. How do I install one of your layouts in my MySpace band profile?
3. I don't have one of your layouts installed but I just need a little help fixing up my page. Can you help me please?
4. I installed some layout code(s) that I got from another MySpace resource site and now my profile looks like crap. Can you help me fix it please?
5. I'd like to make the fonts smaller, another color, use my own background, remove the borders, etc, etc.
6. I'd like to tweak my profile in a certain way but your MySpace editor doesn't have this option. Can you send me the code for my tweak please?
7. I made a layout with your editor using my own background pic but the background doesn't fill the whole screen. What's the code I can use to make it do that?
8. Photobucket made my background too small. What happened?
9. I installed one of your layouts and the MySpace navigation links (Home, Browse, Search, etc) disappeared. What happened?
10. How do I get to my MySpace account home page if the MySpace navigation bar is hidden on my layout?
11. i clickd on the thingy and it didnt work

ANSWERS:

1. I installed one of your layouts but on my profile the text is not aligned with the background image. Can you fix this please?
   
   99% of the time this is caused by posting images or Flash presentations (slideshows, etc.) that are too wide for the allotted width of the MySpace columns. Either you did this when you posted stuff to your profile or one of your friends did this when they posted a comment. The extra wide thing that you posted is spreading your layout out of proportion and hence putting the text out of alignment with the background image. You'll have to find the thing that you posted that is too wide or the thing that your friend posted that is too wide and remove it (it may be several things).    (Be advised that many of my layouts evenly size the tables by setting the width at 335 pixels. So this is the maximum width you have to work with.) [ Back to questions ]

   Sorry to hear to hear about your predicament but quite frankly this is not my problem. Contact the MySpace resource site you got the layout code(s) from and ask them for help. If they won't help you then delete their layout code and try one of mine.
   
   By the way...

   If you install one of my layout codes and the layout didn't display on your profile like it did in the preview and:
   
   
   1. You didn't modify the layout code
   2. You didn't add any codes from another MySpace resource site
   3. Question #1 in this FAQ is not applicable to your situation

   This is a job for my Advanced MySpace Editor. It's easy to use and will allow you to insert your own background image. It also allows you to insert most of the background images used in my premade MySpace layouts. [ Back to questions ]

   Email requests I receive on a daily basis for custom MySpace codes and MySpace tweaks are so numerous and so widely varied that I simply don't have the time to handle them all. I can't start making judgement calls where I reply to you because your custom code request is fairly quick and easy to handle but I completely ignore someone else because their custom code request is more difficult (and time consuming). This just simply wouldn't be fair. So it's either reply to all custom code requests or reply to none. I have to choose the latter of the two otherwise I wouldn't have a life. (Or food on the table. Or a roof over my head... et cetera...) [ Back to questions ]
7. I made a layout with your editor using my own background pic but the background doesn't fill the whole screen. What's the code I can use to make it do that?
   
   There is no code to adjust the size of a background image inserted into a web page using CSS. You'll have to resize the background image itself using a graphics editor like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. If you don't have a graphics editor, check out my list of best free graphics editors. 8. Photobucket made my background too small. What happened?
   
   I don't know why people ask me this. They should ask Photobucket. Anywho, the answer is Photobucket imposes a file dimension limit on free accounts. At the time of this writing, this limit is 1024 x 768. [ Back to questions ]
9. I installed one of your layouts and the MySpace navigation links (Home, Browse, Search, etc) disappeared. What happened?
   
   Many of my layouts hide the MySpace navigation bar to create a cleaner display. It's a style I'm particularly fond of. (I don't like clutter.) I'm sorry if this took you by surprise but this is the way the layout appears in the preview so I sort of expect people to notice these things. Nevertheless, in an effort to make users a little more observant, I'm starting to place special advisories above all the layout thumbnail pics indicating exactly which MySpace elements (modules) are hidden by that particular layout code. 10. How do I get to my MySpace account home page if the MySpace navigation bar is hidden on the layout I installed?
    
    Easy. Click on your 'Pics' link and then click on the 'Home' link on that page. Then save the MySpace account home page to your browser favorites for easy access later. [ Back to questions ]

    Huh? Aw c'mon now, people... Sheesh.
    
    NEWSFLASH: I'm not some kind of omnipotent MySpace spirit god who hovers over your shoulder watching your every move as you attempt to customize your MySpace profile.. If you don't clearly tell me what's going on then I have no idea what you're talking about! MORE INFORMATION PLEASE!! And not absolutely mandatory but you'll probably save us both a lot of time and trouble if you lose the chatspeak and take the time to write me a REAL email which includes:
    
    
    1. Your MySpace URL
    2. A well-written spellchecked description of your problem
    
    By the way, "i clickd on the thingy and it didnt work" is not an exaggeration. I actually got an email like this and it's indicative of many emails I receive. Too little information and too poorly written. I do my best to respond to all emails but sometimes if the email is really bad (like the example above), I admittedly just bail out, click on 'Delete' and move on. Life is too short. What can I say?
