Uninstalling Seamonkey Extensions
Unfortunately this is where the party ends for Seamonkey as there is no quick, easy and reliable method of uninstalling extensions. If you have to uninstall an extension however, here are your options:
- Set your brain on prepare-to-be-stupefied and then visit the Mozilla knowledge base page on Uninstalling Extensions to learn how to uninstall extensions manually (read: the hard way). If you follow the instructions carefully, this is the most reliable method of uninstalling extensions.
- Try installing Jeremy Gillick's Extension Manager which will automate the process of uninstalling extensions. This is a two-part installation.
- Install ExtensionUninstaller API and then...
- Install ExtensionManager
Be advised however that this extension uninstaller is somewhat dated and will not work on all extensions AND... AND it may royally mess up the Seamonkey user interface if you try to use it on an extension it's not compatible with. (Don't say I didn't warn ya.) But it does work on some extensions. - I've heard tell of another method of uninstalling extensions which involves merely deleting the 'chrome' directory in your user profile while Seamonkey is shut down. You can access the chrome directory by doing the following:
- Click on Start » Run.
- Type in "%APPDATA%" (without the double quotation marks)
- Click on OK
- From here the path to your chrome directory is: Mozilla/Profiles/your_current_profile_name/xxxxxxxx.slt/chrome
Deleting the chrome directory will reportedly uninstall all your extensions in one fell swoop providing that you installed your extensions into your profile directory in the first place (typically by clicking on OK instead of Cancel during the installation process). I can't vouch for this method however as every time I tried it, I was left with a big gray bar at the bottom of the Seamonkey user interface. There are a number of power users out there, however, who swear that this method works fine. - A variation of the prior method which I've used with no ill effcts is to simply create a new profile. To do this, click on Tools » Switch Profile... » Manage Profiles.... (This will not uninstall the Home Button extension however.)
